Karns City's Emily LoPresti (17), battling Clarion's Maci Thornton for possession here, scored six goals Wednesday — including the 100th of her career — in the Gremlins' 11-0 girl;s soccer victory over the Bobcats.

KARNS CITY — Emily LoPresti wanted badly for the shot to go in.

She struck a shot left-footed from 18 yards out that looked like it was bending the wrong way.

The Karns City senior didn't want to be sitting on 99 goals heading to DuBois Central Catholic Saturday.

She wanted to score her 100th goal at home.

“I was hoping it was going to go in,” LoPresti said. “It looked like I was going to miss.”

LoPresti didn't have to wait.

Her shot knuckled in with around 5 minutes remaining in the Gremlins' 11-0 season-opening Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference win over Clarion Wednesday night at Diehl Stadium. It was her sixth goal of the contest.

LoPresti became the fourth Gremlins player to reach the 100-goal mark. Leslie Barnhart holds the school record with 213, followed by Brittni Grenniger (194) and Breann Wood (122).

Hitting the mark was important for LoPresti, who saw Wood do it last year. Wood now plays soccer at Carlow University.

“I played with her all last year and I look up to her,” LoPresti said. “I want to play college soccer, too.”

LoPresti said she's had around 10 colleges contact her about playing next year, mostly at the Division II level.

First-year Gremlins coach Tracy Dailey appreciates how LoPresti approaches the game.

She can score in a variety of ways.

Her first goal against the Bobcats came from a header and four of her other five were from shots inside the box.

“She has that desire to score,” Dailey said. “She's able to take players one-on-one, but changes it up. She's unpredictable.”

LoPresti attributes the variety to having played for various club soccer teams. She played for PA Crew Academy and plans to play for North United.

Megan McCartney, Emily Schnell, Chelsey Dodds, Aubrey Ball and Brianna Brusamonti also scored for Karns City in its season-opening win.

Dailey thinks LoPresti will have a big impact on this team.

“She's going to be one of our leaders on the team,” Dailey said. “She shows it in her encouragement of players. She figures out what she can do to win the ball and go at players.”

LoPresti isn't content to stop at 100.

She has bigger goals, even though she knows one is probably out of reach.

“I feel like I got it off my shoulders,” LoPresti said. “I'm hoping to break the record, but that probably won't happen.”
