HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP

After both carding a 36 in regulation, Butler's Gabe Baroffio and Nic Leone defeated Shaler's Tanner Grzegorcyck and Gerad Greco on the third playoff hole to lift the Golden Tornado to a boys golf victory at Pheasant Ridge Golf Club.

The match was tied at 207 after nine holes.

Slippery Rock 164, Moniteau 182, Grove City 189 —Zac McCue earned medalist honors for the Rockets, shooting a 39 to help Slippery Rock (5-0) win a tri-match at Oakview.

Britton Simmons led the Warriors with a 41, while Kyle Shingledecker and Daniel Lucas had 46s for the Eagles (3-4).

Knoch fell to 3-5.

Knoch's Kaelyn Oskin scored off a pass from Maddie Abriatis to lift the Knights (1-1, 1-0) to a 1-0 victory over Freeport.

Becca Stockert earned the shutout with six saves.

Butler 4, Hampton 1 — Brittnie Spithaler scored twice to help the Golden Tornado win their Section 2-AAA opener.

Skyler Dennison and Hannah Hays also scored for Butler (1-1, 1-0).

Mackenzie Troyan stopped 14 shots for the Golden Tornado.

Knoch's girls cross country team won the Quad County warmup exhibition at Harrison Hills Park.The Knights finished with 35 points, beating Greensburg Salem (48), Freeport (68) and Highlands (79).Maya Wirtz was Knoch's fastest finisher, placing fourth with a time of 22 minutes, 52 seconds. Sadie Longo had eight digs and eight kills to help A-C Valley win its season-opener at Grove City 25-22, 25-17, 25-15.Melanie Lewis had 18 service points, seven digs and seven assists for the Falcons (1-0). Danielle Kaufman had eight service points, while Katie Stumpner added 17 and 10 digs.

Karns City (1-0-1) was led by Tyler Pollock and Jace Ebbitt, who both scored two goals and added an assist in a 5-2 win against Clarion-Limestone.John Garing scored once and Matt Yough had two assists.
