SRU is women’s conference site

SLIPPERY ROCK — Powerful Connections for Women will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 10 at Slippery Rock University’s Robert M. Smith Student Center, Rock Pride Drive. The conference registration deadline is Friday.

Through keynote and break-out sessions along with mentoring and networking, the conference will identify strategies for success and address the real issues of work and life balance, health and wellness, and professional and personal growth skills.

Center collects winter clothing

Oct. 10 is the deadline to contribute winter coats, hats, scarves, gloves and mittens to Bundle Up Butler.

The Center for Community Resources, 212-214 S. Main St., #625, and the Butler Collaborative for Families are receiving the donations.

Winter coats for children and adults and winter clothing for school-age children will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Farmers Market, 205 S. Chestnut St.

Academy to host autism workshop

ZELIENOPLE — Glade Run Lutheran Services will have a one-day autism workshop from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 10 at St. Stephen’s Academy, 70 Beaver Road.

The keynote speaker will be George Braddock, president of Creative Housing Solutions. There will be three breakout sessions.

Fire department sets open house

BUTLER TWP — The South Butler Volunteer Fire Department will have an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 11 at the fire department, 98 Old Plank Road.

Fire equipment will be on display.

The open house also will include fire safety information and a vehicle extrication demonstration.

Quilt guild sponsors show

EMLENTON — The Meandering Trails Quilt Show will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 11 (in conjunction with the A-C Valley Driving Tour) and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Silver Fox Theater and Event Center in St. Petersburg.

The show sponsor is Scrubgrass Stitchers Quilt Guild which meets monthly at the Scrubgrass Grange, 5104 Emlenton-Clintonville Road.

The show will feature more than 100 quilts made by guild members and the community.

There will be vendors featuring quilting and sewing-related items and displays of small projects such as purses, bags, tote bags and organizational items.
