Mars Shortline Railroad offers small scale train rides for adults and children during October. Rides go on, weather permitting, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays at the History & Landmarks Society's restored B&O Train Station, 1 Brickyard Road. Admission is by donation. The Butler Ghost Walk will take place at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays from this Friday through Nov. 1. The 60-minute walk begins in Diamond Park opposite the Butler County Courthouse. Participants experience the ghosts of Butler's past through guide Bill May's stories of Sam Mohawk, the old hospital, the phantom Civil War regiment and others. Tickets are $10. The Old Stone House offers tours 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $3 per person or $5 per family. National Aviary, 700 Arch St., presents “Whooo's Ready for Owl-o-Ween?” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Aviary keepers will introduce visitors to four different species of owls, including the screech owl, spectacled owl, Eurasian eagle-owl, and a barn owl named Whisper. Owl-o-Ween events are included with regular admission of $14 for adults, $13 for senior citizens and $12 for children ages 2 to 18. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Visit www.aviary.org

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, 700 Frank Curto Drive, is hosting the fall flower show through Nov. 9. Conservatory hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and until 10 p.m. Fridays. Heinz History Center, 1212 Smallman St., hosts through Jan. 4 “Pittsburgh's Lost Steamboat: Treasures of the Arabia.” A long-term exhibition showcasing the Heinz company also continues. Carnegie Science Center, North Side, hosts its annual ChemFest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with dozens of hands-on activities. The Great Pumpkin Smash will take place Nov. 1. The exhibit “Blue!” continues through Jan. 1. Center hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays through Fridays. ToonSeum, featuring cartoon art at 945 Liberty Ave., presents “When Universes Collide: The Ultimate Superhero Smackdown” extended through Jan. 4 and “Cartoons are the Best Medicine: The Healing Humor of Dan Piraro,” through Nov. 2. Children's Museum, Allegheny Square, has opened the exhibit “Bounce: Inspired by the World's Most Amazing Ball!” The annual Tough Art exhibit continues.
