Tentative budget shows no tax hike

Middlesex Twp. board gives OK

MIDDLESEX TWP — Township residents will not see a property tax increase next year if the tentative 2015 budget is passed next month.

The township supervisors voted Wednesday night to approve the preliminary 2015 township budget for $2.2 million. That is up from this year's $1.9 million budget.

The property millage rate will remain at 12 mills for the 10th consecutive year. A mill is equal to $1 for each $1,000 of a property's assessed value.

The budget is separated into three funds. The general fund will receive 9 mills, the debt service fund 1.5 mills, and the fire services fund another 1.5 mills.

Gerald Patterson, interim township manager, said the 2015 budget continues to focus on road upgrades.

He said of the $823,000 public works expenditure in the budget, $390,000 has been earmarked for road repairs.

The supervisors over the past several years have made a concerted effort to upgrade the township's roads.

The supervisors are expected to vote on a final budget on Dec. 17.
