Edward Kiser

Scoutmaster Gary Wulff from Troop 30 of the Boy Scouts of America Moraine Trails Council, honored Edward Kiser for earning his Eagle rank at the Court of Honor Dec. 21 at the Unionville Volunteer Fire Hall.

Butler County Commissioner Dale Pinkerton presented Edward with an award from the commissioner's office. Edward's recruiter, Staff Sgt. Gabrielle Reynoso presented him with the Good Citizenship Award and coin from the U.S. Marine Corp League.

Edward also received an Outstanding Achievement and Distinguished Service Award from Sen. Pat Toomey.

Edward, several scouts from Troop 30 and family and friends painted 100 fire hydrants in Center Township while working on his Eagle project. Joel Hilliard of the Pennsylvania American Water Company supplied paint and cleaning supplies.

The 2014 Butler High School alumnus is a volunteer firefighter at the Unionville Fire Hall. He is a graduate of fire school, and a certified scuba diver. Edward works for UPS.

He enlisted in the Marine Corp. and will leave for traning camp Feb. 17.

Reed McDonough, 17, of Mars Boy Scout Troop 400 attained the rank of Eagle by passing his Board of Review July 23.On Dec. 23 at the Adams Township Municipal Building, Reed's achievements were recognized by scoutmaster Adam Diethorn and previous scoutmaster Matt Mallin,Representatives from the U.S. Marine Corp League and Reed's grandfather, Galen Robbins, an Eagle Scout of 63 years from Lancaster County, attended. Pastor Robert Rigg, retired from Mars Lutheran Church, performed the invocation and benediction.Reed is the son of Larry and Lynn McDonough of Middlesex Township and the grandson of Robert and Amelia McDonough of Hampton Township.In fifth grade, Reed became a Webelo II Cub Scout with Mars Pack 413 and earned his Arrow of Light.He has earned 24 merit badges, gone on numerous campouts and attended the 100th Year National Jamboree and High Adventure open water scuba diving trip.When he was senior patrol leader, Troop 400 received the Troop Excellence award.For his Eagle project, Reed rebuilt a footbridge at the Family Resource Center. The project required the demolition of the original bridge.The Mars High School senior swims with the USA Club and the high school team, earning a PIAA State Championship last year.Reed is a member of the National Honor Society and is secretary and president of Kiwanis Club.He belongs to Mars Lutheran Church. Reed plans to pursue a degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
