SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University Program Board will bring retired coach Herman Boone, whose life was captured in part in the popular Disney film “Remember the Titans,” to campus Feb. 12 as part of the campus observance of Black History Month.

Boone will speak at 8 p.m. in the Smith Student Center Ballroom. The film will be shown at 7 p.m. on Feb. 4 in the Advanced Technology and Science Center Auditorium.

The acclaimed coach will discuss how in 1971, as racial tensions ran high in Alexandria, Va., over the integration of three schools to form T.C. Williams High School, he and his players were able to become successful.

The story was captured in the film version, with Boone played by Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington.
