HARRISBURG — More than $150,000 in state gaming proceeds will be shared among 12 first-response agencies in the state 8th House District in Butler and Mercer counties, state Rep. Tedd Nesbit, R-8th, announced.

Fire departments and ambulance companies that received money in the district include:

• Harrisville Volunteer Fire Company, $12,622

• Portersville-Muddy Creek Volunteer EMS, $7,444

• Portersville-Muddy Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department, $11,459

• Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, $14,284

• West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department, $14,284

• Grove City Volunteer Fire Department, $14,284

• Pine Township Engine Company, $14,007

• Volunteer First Department of Springfield Township, $14,007

The money comes from grants funded by proceeds from the state's gaming facilities. The grants can be used to help with construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, or reducing existing debt.

HARRISBURG — State Sen. Scott Hutchinson, R-21st, has been appointed chairman of the Senate Local Government Committee for the 2015-16 legislative session.He noted the state has more than 2,500 municipalities.“It is essential that the state work in partnership with our local governments to develop and enact legislation that strengthens our communities and enhances the quality of life of their citizens,” he said.Hutchinson also is vice chairman of the Finance Committee, and he is a member of the Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, Public Health and Welfare Committee, and the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee.

ZELIENOPLE — State Rep. Jim Marshall, R-14, is opening a satellite office in the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau building, 310 E. Grandview Ave.The office will be open to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, beginning Tuesday.The 14th District includes Jackson and Lancaster townships in Butler County, as well as Evans City, Harmony and Zelienople.
