Moniteau girls win 8th straight

Alazia Greaves and Kristina DeMatteis each scored 13 points as the Moniteau girls basketball team edged Redbank Valley 42-36 for its eighth win in a row.

The Warriors (14-5) held Redbank to just 21 points in the last three quarters.

Karns City 54, A-C Valley 29 — Shanel Preston scored 17 points as the Gremlins toppled A-C Valley, 54-29, on Senior Night.

Preston, a senior, hit three 3-pointers and helped the Gremlins (15-3) build a 36-12 lead at the half.

LeeAnn Gibson added 11 points and senior Annie Hegedus added 10 points for Karns City.

Morgan Cratty paced A-C Valley (10-9) with 11 points.

Boys Basketball

Dalton Callihan scored 16 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds and David Olszak also pitched in 16 points as Karns City downed A-C Valley, 65-34.

The Gremlins (11-7) had a slim five-point lead at the half, but blew the game open by outscoring the Falcons 26-3 in the third quarter.

The win clinches a trip to the playoffs for Karns City.
