Play Time SRU flutists host high schoolers
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University flute students will share the love of music with high school flutists from Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida when they collectively participate in the Honors Flute Ensemble on Saturday and Sunday.
The inaugural program will culminate with a 7 p.m. Sunday concert in SRU’s Swope Recital Hall, with high school students performing alongside the SRU Flute Ensemble.
Cassandra Eisenreich, SRU music instructor and flute program director, will conduct the program for 18 high school students. Stacey Steele, SRU music professor emeritus, also will teach.
The program aims to educate and inspire high school students to pursue their musical aspirations.
Eisenreich said the program will give high school students the chance to learn what it’s like to study music at the collegiate level.
She said she advertised the program through the Pittsburgh Flute Club and the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association.
Participants were selected after they submitted audition recordings, including scales, arpeggios and a required piece.
Participating SRU students are part of the SRU Flute Ensemble.
