Man still in prison after arrest for DUI, fleeing

Police: License also suspended

PENN TWP — A suspected drunken driver remains jailed on felony and other charges after he allegedly led police on a weekend chase through two municipalities that ended only when he made it home.

Frank A. Miller III, 44, was driving with a suspended license for a prior drunken driving conviction when he was arrested shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday after pulling into a parking space at his house on Dutchtown Road in Butler Township.

A Penn Township patrol officer initially spotted the suspect’s Cadillac speed by on Route 8 north at Renfrew Road. Using the VASCAR system, the officer measured the car’s speed at 68 mph in a 50 mph zone, according to court documents.

Patrolman Dennis Crawford activated his emergency lights and siren but Miller refused to pull over, police said.

While the defendant slowed down at some of the stop signs he did not stop until he got home about three miles later.

Crawford said Miller smelled of alcohol and appeared to be intoxicated, documents said. He was taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry for a blood test, which he eventually refused to take.

At the hospital, police said, the defendant repeatedly stood up and took an “aggressive posture” toward the officer.

Later at the police station, he allegedly urinated on the floor of the holding cell.

District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Miller on charges of escape and fleeing or attempting to elude police, both felonies.

He also was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence, driving during suspension-DUI related, being an habitual offender for driving with a suspended license, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

Additionally, police cited him for speeding, careless driving and fraudulent use of a license plate.

He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail following arraignment.

Police asked Haggerty for the relatively high bail due in part to Miller’s prior record that includes five previous convictions each for DUI and driving with a suspended license, all since 1996.
