Student faces drug charges

Ahmed Turner
SRU police make arrest

SLIPPERY ROCK — A Slippery Rock University student faces a hearing this week on several charges including felony drug possession after police found him hiding under a bed at a campus apartment.

SRU police said they also found more than one-half pound of suspected marijuana that belonged to the suspect, Ahmed T. Turner Jr., 20, of Pittsburgh.

Turner was arrested Wednesday after police were called to the Rock Apartments for a report of burning marijuana.

The residents there allowed officers into the apartment. In one room that was supposed to be empty and locked, police found a metal pill grinder with suspected marijuana and a glass jar inside a book bag.

The jar held a plastic baggie with “a golf ball size amount of marijuana,” according to court documents.

Police later determined the suspected marijuana weighed 8.3 ounces, or 235 grams.

Also seized were two packages of rolling paper and a digital scale “with marijuana residue all over it,” document said.

Officers continued their search of the room, turning to the bed. A look under the mattress yielded an 8-inch knife on top of the bed spring.

Police said when they went to flip over the bed spring they noticed a man, later identified as Turner, apparently hiding. He was under the bed, on his back, up against the wall.

Turner would not come out, police said, prompting one officer to pull his Taser. Moments later he surrendered, documents said.

Police said they found more than $600 in his wallet.

Turner was arraigned on charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, resisting arrest, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and trespassing.

A preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at District Judge Tim Shaffer’s office in Slippery Rock.

Turner could not be reached for comment and his status at SRU was not immediately known. An online directory lists him as a student and his Facebook page says he is studying business marketing.
