Harmony to change borough street lights

HARMONY — The borough plans to change its street lights from high-pressure-sodium bulbs to LED bulbs in the next two years.

Borough council voted Tuesday night to spend $3,000, the amount budgeted for street lights this year, to change half of its 46 street lights to LEDs.

The specific bulbs in the street lights are being discontinued, so the borough decided to look into the more energy-efficient LED bulbs instead, said councilman Dave Szakelyhidi.

The new lights give off a white light, as opposed to the yellow light given by the current ones.

The bulbs use less electricity, which will mean a savings of about $7,000 over the first five years they are installed, he said.
