Silversmith Randolph Smith, who recently set up a studio at The Art Center, is offering a jewelry making class.

Upcoming events at The Art Center include:

Band night

The Art Center’s Underground Gallery is having a Spring Fling Band Night on Friday. Doors open at 6 p.m. with a $5 cover charge.

Bands performing include Jerry Fels, Fidelity Laurels, Spencer Patrick, To Love and Grow, Down They Fall, Floor Plains, Somber Chronicles, and Truk Arndell.

Classes

Tom Sheehan Workshop: group and individual instruction 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 18. Topics will include watercolor, drawing, and oil painting. Take materials. Fee is $90.

Saturday Morning Walk-In Classes will feature Dale Harris presenting the basics of architectural drawing with an emphasis on the perspectives necessary in drawing or painting landscapes and cityscapes on April 4 and Ben Bires teaching drawing and painting techniques on April 11.

The time for walk-in classes is 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $15 per person.

Silversmith Randolph Smith has created a new studio at The Art Center where he will teach silversmith basics and techniques in seven classes for students with a serious interest in jewelry and metalworking arts. The student project will be the construction of a ring.

Cost is $25 per session plus cost of materials.

Pottery for Adults, Steve Harding teacher, 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays for six weeks starting April 15. Fee is $120 plus $30 for materials.

Drawing & Painting for teens and adults, Ben Bires teacher, 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays for four weeks starting April 8. Fee is $60 with materials included.

Graphite, Charcoal Drawing and Oil Pastels for children ages 6 to 12, Amanda Lynne teacher, noon to 2 p.m. Saturdays for six weeks starting April 11. Cost is $90 per student.

Pottery for Children ages 6 to 12, Sarah Irion teacher, noon to 2 p.m. Saturdays for six weeks starting April 11. Fee is $110 plus $20 for materials.

Exhibits

The Slippery Rock University Seminar Show, will be April 8 to 15.

This is a two-part event starting with SRU faculty teaching students how to hang an art show of their own work professionally and with precision.

The reception for this show will be from 6 to 9 p.m. April 13.

The annual Spring Art Show is scheduled for April 22 to May 22 and offers cash and ribbons for Best of Show and first and second places. A reception and awards ceremony will be from 7 to 9 p.m. April 24.

Music

Banjo lessons with Nic Landon, starting April 16.  Fee is $10 fee per person.

The Art Center at 344 S. Main St. is open from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Admission is free.
