Best Dem snubbed
I read with dismay Democratic Committee Chair Georgiann Kerr’s letter (“Why Dems Endorsed 2”, April 23).
The writer disparages Democratic candidate David Johnston because he was “a Republican until December of last year”. She encourages support of the two Democratic Party endorsed candidates “and we will never hear from David Johnston again”.
How sad.
I am a life-long Democrat. I attended the candidates night at Butler County Community College a few weeks ago. Clearly, David Johnston was the most qualified candidate of all who spoke that night.
I am of the view that it’s the character of the candidate that matters, not party affiliation.
Kerr’s stance perpetuates the notion that party loyalty trumps qualifications. That’s the type of backwards thinking that has put us in the sad position we’re in locally and nationally.
