Velma "Jean" (Everly) Cochrane

Velma “Jean” (Everly) Cochrane, 81, of Butler passed away Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving and devoted family and friends.

She was born Aug. 16, 1933, in Hickman, Pa., to the late Bernard C. Everly and Anna T. (Young) Everly.

Mrs. Cochrane was the owner of Jean's Personal Care Home in Evans City for 26 years, retiring June 1, 2001.

Mrs. Cochrane was a life member and on the board of directors for Residential Care Associates of Pennsylvania and also served as president of Western Division Residential Care Associates of Pennsylvania. She had a love for racing and owned her own “8c” dirt modified race car for close to two decades, winning many championships.

Mrs. Cochrane was an assistant instructor of ballroom dancing for ABC Dance Studios in Butler and Evans City. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Mrs. Cochrane attended First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Cochrane is survived by two daughters, Gail Jeanine McCance and her husband, William, of Butler and Deborah Jean Nicholas of Fombell; one son, Galen C. Cochrane; 17 grandchildren, especially Derek and Savannah McCance; a number of great -grandchildren, nieces and nephews; one brother, Donald D. Everly and his wife, Phyllis, of Chicora; and her faithful and loving grand puppy, Sawyer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Galen “Mickey” Cochrane, who she married June 1, 1963, and who passed away Sept. 16, 1967; two sons, Timothy A. Nicholas and Daniel R. Nicholas; her sister, Joann; and her brother, Clyde.

COCHRANE — Friends of Velma “Jean” (Everly) Cochrane, who died Saturday, May 30, 2015, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.A memorial service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Eric Park and the Rev. Tim Goodman of First United Methodist Church officiating. A dinner will be at First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., Butler, for family and friends immediately following the memorial service.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Four Gateway Center, 444 Liberty Ave., Suite 140, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, or to the Hillman Cancer Center, 5115 Centre Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15232.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
