Butler Police

10:29 p.m. Monday — Crystal G. Irwin, 22, of Butler faces drug charges after she suffered an apparent heroin overdose at a home on South Ninth Avenue.

Police said when emergency crews got to the home they found Irwin unconscious. She was given Narcan, a drug that counteracts opiates like heroin, and revived her, according to court documents. She refused further treatment.

A search of the suspect’s purse, police said, turned up three stamp bags and two empty bags of suspected heroin and a used syringe.

Irwin is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Monday — Police filed felony charges against two women in connection with a shoplifting incident June 12 at the Pullman Square Kmart store.

The suspects, Jessicka A. West, 27, of Butler and Shannen M. West, 23, of Bentleyville, Washington County, are accused of teaming up to steal several toys. The store’s surveillance camera captured the alleged shoplifters on video, according to court documents.

Jessicka West is charged with retail theft, a misdemeanor, and conspiracy to commit retail theft, a felony. Shannen West, who has more than two prior shoplifting arrests, faces felony charges of retail theft and conspiracy to commit retail theft.

Monday — Jouline L. Walker, 25, no known address, was charged with theft for allegedly pilfering another woman’s wallet June 17 at Kmart.

The owner told police she had left her wallet, which contained $200, at the cash register. When she returned to get the wallet, it was gone, court documents said. She inquired at the customer service desk and learned another woman had claimed it.

Police reviewed the store’s surveillance video and identified Walker as the suspected thief. Officers later found her on the front porch of a home in the 1400 block of West Wayne Street. Next to her, documents said, was the stolen wallet, minus the money.

Monday — Police charged Jeffrey W. Nadiak, 27, no known address, with receiving stolen property stemming from the April 29 sale of an electric guitar previously stolen from a Butler church.

Nadiak is accused of selling the Yamaha guitar, valued at $400, at a city pawnshop on April 29, according to court documents. The guitar was reported stolen March 22 from the Grace@Calvary Lutheran Church on East Diamond Street.

Police said the guitar was later recovered and returned to the church.

10:15 p.m. June 24 — David R. Gruseck, 41, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, Rachelle Zamek, during a domestic dispute at his home in the 200 block of Roosevelt Boulevard.

Zamek told police Gruseck threw her to the ground and repeatedly punched her, court documents said. She suffered injuries to her face, neck, back, arms and legs.

Gruseck was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and placed in the Butler County Prison. He was released Monday after posting $5,000 bail.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office on Monday filed their own criminal case against the defendant after Zamek on Thursday obtained a protection from abuse order against him.

While searching his home for guns, they seized a .45-caliber muzzle loader and a pellet rifle, court documents said. The sheriff’s office said that because of Gruseck’s past criminal record in Pennsylvania and South Carolina, he is barred from possessing any guns. The sheriff’s office charged him with illegal possession of a firearm, a felony.

Butler County Sheriff’s Office

Monday — Jeremy M. Flood, 39, of Evans City was charged with misdemeanor drug possession several weeks after sheriff’s deputies nabbed him on an arrest warrant in the government center lobby.

The deputies on May 15 stopped Flood after learning he was wanted on the warrant issued to Butler police. He was searched, according to court documents, and found with a Suboxone strip for which he had no prescription. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Flood, meanwhile, remains in the Butler County Prison on $150,000 bail in connection with a Butler police case in which he’s charged with intimidation of a victim, a felony. Police accused him in that case of threatening his then girlfriend after she reported he had assaulted her during a domestic dispute.

State Police, Butler

8:53 a.m. Tuesday — No one was injured in a five-vehicle, chain-reaction accident on Route 68, just west of Old Route 8, in Forward Township. Police did not identify any of the drivers. The Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.

7:50 p.m. Sunday — A car driven by a 17-year-old Freeport boy collided with a pickup truck at Bear Creek and Stoney Hollow roads in Winfield Township. The boy, who police did not identify, was cited for running a stop sign. Joseph F. Visnovsky, 48, of West Leechburg, Armstrong County, was the other driver.

1:11 a.m. Saturday — Matthew M. McCool, 42, of Sarver was arrested for driving under the influence on Route 228 east of Rolling Mills Drive in Middlesex Township. In addition to DUI, police charged McCool with careless driving, failing to keep right and disregarding traffic lanes.

Saturday — An unspecified amount of currency was stolen from a cash register during a burglary at the China Gourmet restaurant on Route 8 in Center Township. The burglar got inside after shattering the glass in a rear door and climbing through the door between 10 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

A police report noted the same restaurant was burglarized April 2. Investigators believe the same crook committed both break-ins. Police did not indicate if they have any suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.

1:57 a.m. Friday — James G. Callen, 25 of Hilliards was arrested for drunken driving on Vogel Road near Oakhurst Drive in Butler Township. Callen is charged with DUI and a pair of traffic violations, including driving a vehicle with unsafe equipment.

Friday — An Armstrong County man was charged with lying on his background- check form in February when he tried to by a .40-caliber pistol at Sportman’s Supply on Route 356 in Summit Township.

James H. Loughner Jr., 26, of Leechburg denied he had a criminal record when he filled out the federal application to buy the gun. However, according to court documents, Loughner in 2011 was convicted of driving under the influence of a controlled substance in Allegheny County.

Under state law, Loughner cannot own a firearm due to his criminal record.

He is charged with unlawful attempt to buy a firearm, a felony, and unsworn falsification to authorities, a misdemeanor.

June 24 — A 60-year-old Butler area woman reported an unknown man scammed her out of $1,500 in a confidence scheme. A police news release provided no other details.

June 11 — Jewelry valued at $3,000 was stolen from a 48-year-old woman’s home on Herman Road in Summit Township. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call police.

Grove City Police

4:58 p.m. Friday — John Katalinas, 19, of Grove City was arrested after police were called for a domestic dispute in the 200 block of West Main Street. Katalinas is charged with disorderly conduct, public intoxication and underage drinking.

12:30 p.m. Friday — An unknown thief stole a 39-year-old Volant woman’s laundry and clothes basket from Leisure Time Laundry on West Main Street. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-458-7925

5:04 p.m. Thursday — Two young Grove City men landed in trouble after police were called for a fight in the 200 block of Edgewood Avenue. Police said the suspects, 20-year-old Zach Surrena and 19-year-old Shane Magee, are both charged with disorderly conduct.

State Police, Kittanning

4:54 p.m. Tuesday — Emily Ann Lacava, 28, of Sarver is suspected of driving under the influence of prescription medication after police stopped her in connection with a hit-and-run crash on Route 28 in Ohara Township, Allegheny County. Police said Lacava was later taken for a blood test. Charges are pending toxicology results.

2:30 p.m. June 23 — An unknown suspect via Instagram sent obscene photographs of himself to a 13-year-old girl in Pine Township, Armstrong County. Police said their investigation continues.

State Police, Mercer

June 24 — An unknown identity thief opened two credit card accounts in the name of a 27-year-old Grove City area woman. The suspect made unspecified purchases using the fraudulent credit cards.
