Library to benefit from tasting tour

HARMONY — The Harmony Business Association, with borough cooperation will host a wine, beer and chocolate tasting through Harmony’s historic districts from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 17.

Participants will enjoy tastings from Western Pennsylvania vendors at sites and businesses along the walking tour route.

Shelley McPharlin will present acoustic guitar music at the Harmony Museum’s wine cellar and other entertainment will be offered at several stops.

The event will benefit the Zelienople Public Library.

The check-in and starting point will be the Center of Harmony, 235 Mercer St.

St. Christopher festival planned

PROSPECT — St. Christopher at the Lake Church, 229 N. Franklin St., Route 528, will hold its annual festival from 5 to 10 p.m. July 17 and 18.

There will be games for all ages, basket and other raffles and a flea market. Food available will include barbecue chicken, homemade pie and ice cream, fast food and ethnic favorites.

Square dancing will be from 7 to 10 p.m. July 17 and a DJ and karaoke will entertain from 5 to 10 p.m. July 18. The 501st Legion Star Wars Characters will appear at 6 p.m. and the Tamarack Lake Cloggers at 7 p.m. July 18.

An outdoor Mass will be at 4 p.m. July 18.

Blazing star prairie celebration July 18

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, will host Celebrate the Bloom! from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 18.

A full day of free activities will celebrate one of the region’s unique places: the blazing star prairie.

Activities will include prairie tours and other nature explorations, demonstrations, food, artisans and musical guests.

County parks hosts events this week

The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department will host several events this week at Alameda Park, 184 Alameda Park Road.

The Monday Movie in the Park will be “An American Tale” at 8:30 p.m. today at the Masonic Shelter.

The Family Summer Concert Series will feature the American blues band the May Hollow Remedy at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Odd Fellows Gazebo.

School pride day will be Wednesday at Alameda Waterpark. Students of Slippery Rock and Mars School districts wearing a school logo or showing a school ID will receive half off water park admission.

Alameda Story Adventures for children age 6 and younger will be “Charlotte’s Web” this summer from 11:30 a.m. to noon Thursdays at the Rotary Shelter. No registration is required.

The Outdoor Discovery Series will present the family entertainment program “AL Mazing Magic” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Carousel Shelter.
