County vo-tech school gets $6,500 state grant

The state Department of Education is giving the Butler County Vocational-Technical School $6,500 to buy machinist equipment.

The vo-tech is one of 38 schools in the state to receive the grant, according to a news release issued Thursday by state Rep. Aaron Bernstine, R-10th.

It’s a dollar-for-dollar matching grant, so the schools must match the grant money on whatever they purchase.

In Butler, the funding will help buy an engine lathe and tooling set for the machine technology program.

The grants are for programs that train students for high-demand jobs.

The vo-tech accepts sophomores, juniors and seniors from seven school districts in the county. The school offers 15 programs, including graphic design, carpentry and automotive technology.
