Harmony responds to I-79 vehicle fire
HARMONY — Harmony Fire District and Harmony EMS responded to a vehicle fire southbound on Interstate 79 near mile marker 84.2 Friday morning. No injuries were reported.
Harmony Fire Chief Scott Garing reported a Volkswagen was seen smoking on the side of I-79 before it caught fire around 11 a.m. The fire originated in the engine compartment and extended to the passenger side.
The incident lasted about 40 minutes, according to Garing. The interstate was temporarily shut down due to sight limitations caused by drifting smoke.
Harmony Fire District responded with eight members and two engines. The cause of the fire is unknown.
The vehicle is a total loss.
