Mars soccer in state finals
The Mars girls soccer team was unrelenting yet again Tuesday night, humbling District 12 runner-up Archbishop Wood, 5-1, in a PIAA Class 3A semifinal at Bald Eagle High School in Centre County.
Taylor Hamlett scored three times, including both of Mars' tallies in the first half.
Hamlett has 40 goals on the season.
Aly Cooper and Gracie Dunaway both added a score for the Planets (21-0-1), who will play for the state championship against District 1 champion Villa Joseph Marie at 4 p.m. Saturday at Hersheypark Stadium.
Archbishop Wood's goal came on a penalty kick that cut the Planets' lead to 3-1 in the 57th minute.
Mars has outscored its opposition 35-2 during the WPIAL and PIAA playoffs. The Planets have allowed 10 goals all season.
Villa Joseph Marie has won 11 girls soccer state championships in its history. Mars knocked off Villa Joseph Marie in the 2011 state championship game.
