Butler, Slippery Rock shine at track invites

Butler's girls finished 1-2-3 in the shot put at the TSTCA Outdoor Championships Saturday. From left, Sarayne Forbes was second at 32 feet, 6.5, Kenna Jackson first at 33 feet, Megan Penrod third at 31-9.5.

Butler's boys and girls track and field teams continued to flourish Saturday, both winning the 27-team Tri-State Track Coaches Association Invitational at West Mifflin.

The Golden Tornado girls tallied 166 points, the boys 145.

Kenna Jackson (33 feet), Sarayne Forbes (32-6.5) and Megan Penrod (31-9.5) swept the shot put for Butler's girls. Emma Lehman won both hurdle events and was part of the winning 4x400 meter relay team, joining Taylor Timmons, Justine Forbes and Gabby Boden.

Alexia Mechling won the high jump, Megan Baggetta the triple jump.

The Tornado girls won the TSTCA meet for the fourth time in five years.

Butler's boys won the meet by a 72-point margin over the runner-up team. Skyler Vavro won the 3,200 meters with a 9:22.35, thirdfastest outdoor time in school history.

CJ Singleton won the 800 meters, Guinness Brown the 100 (10.81) and 200 (21.76), Tristan McGarrah the pole vault with a height of 14 feet, 3 inches.

Butler's 4x400 relay of Lucas Slear, Singleton, Brayden Young and Brown won with a time of 3:25.54, third fastest in the state.

Pine-Richland Mini-Invitational — Josh Kingerski and Maryann Ackerman of Slippery Rock were Field MVPs at this event. Slippery Rock had a number of champions in this Saturday meet.On the boys siide, Tyler Arblaster won the 400 meters in 55.32 seconds, Ethan Folmer the high jump (6-0) and triple jump (42-7.50), Kingerski the javelin (169-0), Seaton Wozniak the discus (141-02) and shot put (44-9).On the girls side, Anna Kadlubek won the 200 in 26.62, Maryann Ackerman the shot put (33-02.50) and javelin (108-0). North Catholic's Tara Lucot won the long jump with a leap of 15 feet. Other local placers follow:

Bailey Rickenbrode and Brynnae Coe combined on a one-hitter as Knoch cruised to a 14-1 victory over McKeesport.Rickenbrode also hit two home runs and drove in five runs. Brianna Dittman scored two goals, but Butler dropped a 14-5 decision to North Allegheny Friday night.Alana Collins, Sydney Spack and Tory Stevenson each added a goal. Lauren LeGrand had 15 saves.
