Storm blows in; power outages reported in Butler County

At about 4 p.m. Thursday, more than 1,600 customers of West Penn Power lost power in the center of Butler County.

Hardest hit according to the West Penn Power website were Butler city with 1,004 customers affected and Butler Township with 560 customers without power.

"It's a good sized outage, about 1,603 customers, a lot of Butler addresses and a lot of Lyndora addresses," said Todd Meyers, spokesman for West Penn Power. "One of our circuits on the west side of town is impacted, but we don't know what the problem is yet."

Central Electric Cooperative also reported that 1,109 out of 25,408 customers in Butler County are experiencing electrical outages as of 4:06 p.m. The largest outage is in Franklin Township with 593 out of 598 customers affected. Lancaster Township has 212 customers without power.

The National Weather Service Pittsburgh tweeted at 3:36 p.m. that a cold front would hit the region and generate wind gusts from 30 to 40 mph, accompanied by clouds and showers this afternoon and evening.
