UPDATE: Woman dies in Route 308 head-on crash with garbage truck

Emergency crews closed a portion of West Sunbury Road in response to a head-on collision Friday afternoon.

CENTER TWP — One woman died Friday afternoon in a head-on collision along Route 308, according to officials.

Coroner William Young III said the woman was traveling south on Route 308, also known as West Sunbury Road, around 2:40 p.m. when she drove into the northbound lane and struck a garbage truck.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner said she would not be identified until her family is notified.

Unionville Fire Department was involved in extricating the woman from her vehicle, Young said.

Emergency crews closed a portion of West Sunbury Road into Friday evening. Traffic was rerouted off West Sunbury Road onto Elliott Road.

Unionville and West Sunbury volunteer fire departments, Butler Ambulance Service and state police were among those responding to the crash.
