BUTLER - Discover Chiropractic of 227 S. Chestnut St. is collecting stuff animals for children in its Cuddly Critters for Kids in Crisis effort.Animals collected in the drive, which runs until July 3, will be donated to Butler County's Children and Youth Services.Donations are being taken at the business, and anyone can bring in a stuffed animal. PITTSBURGH - The nation's largest private laboratory performing newborn metabolic screening has become an approved provider for newborn screening in Pennsylvania, the company announced Monday.Pediatrix Screening, owned by Pediatrix Medical Group, currently contracts with most Pennsylvania hospitals to provide supplemental newborn screening tests to identify the presence of up to 50 metabolic disorders. Serving as a single-source provider will make it more convenient for hospitals to comply with both their required testing and their voluntary expanded screening services, the company said.Pennsylvania requires that hospitals select an approved provider to screen all babies born in the state for six conditions, including phenylketonuria, primary congenital hypothyroidism and hemoglobinopathies.Pediatrix, founded in 1979, is based in Pittsburgh.

FORD CITY - In an effort to encourage economic development, the state will give two southwestern Pennsylvania companies a combined $599,250.Rosebud Mining will use $324,250 to construct a coal preparation plant in Ford City. The move will create 65 jobs and will help the company retain 300 positions.Druzak Medical, a distributor of medical supplies, will use $275,000 to buy a building in Beaver County that will house its warehouse and headquarters. The move will create three jobs and will help the company retain 38 positions.
