Dallas O'Donnell had three hits as the East Butler Vin and Joe's Red Sox claimed the NBC Colt title with an 8-6 win over Butler VFW Friday night.

Anthony Slater had a double and a single and Josh Donaldson also had two hits for the Red Sox.

Brian anthony, Cory Pyle and Jimmy McKissick each had two hits for Butler VFW.

CARSON, Calif. - Venus Williams and Lindsay Davenport advanced to the JPMorgan Chase Open semifinals with easy victories.Williams defeated Francesca Schiavone and No. 3 Davenport beat seventh-seeded Nadia Petrova.Top-seeded Serena Williams needed nearly two hours to get by No. 8 Vera Zvonareva, and will next play fourth-seeded Elena Dementieva.

PITTSBURGH - Linebacker Clark Haggans will miss at least several weeks of Steelers training camp because of a broken hand.Haggans, who replaced Jason Gildon as the starting left outside linebacker, broke his hand while lifting weights this week.Second-year player Alonzo Jackson will replace Haggans while he recuperates. Jackson, the team's second-round draft choice last year, suited up for only the first two games as a rookie.The Steelers signed Haggans to a $10.2 million, four-year contract in March.

IRVING, Texas - Eddie George agreed to a contract with the Dallas Cowboys, two days after he was released by Tennessee.George was expected to sign for a base salary near $1.5 million, but with many reachable incentives that could take him closer to $4.25 million.George left the Titans after eight seasons and more than 10,000 yards. He has never missed a game in his 128-game career.

SEATTLE - Former AL batting champion John Olerud was released by the last-place Seattle Mariners.Olerud was hitting .245 with five homers and 22 RBIs in 77 games when he was designated for assignment last week. He was in the final year of his contract, earning $7.7 million this season.Olerud hit an AL-leading .363 with Toronto in 1993, when the Blue Jays won their second straight World Series title. He has a career average of .295.
