Stephen M. Horkey Sr.

Stephen M. Horkey, Sr., 74, of 711 Woodbine Ave. Southeast, Warren, Ohio, died at 5:31 p.m. Saturday in the emergency room at Trumbull Memorial Hospital following an apparent heart attack at his home.

Born March 21, 1930, in Acme, Westmoreland County, he was a son of Stephen and Mary Hruovsky Horkey Carothers.

He attended the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in the Edgewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh and came to the Warren area 47 years ago from Butler.

Mr. Horkey was a Plant 5 welder for VanHuffel Tube and for Sawhill Tubular for 47 years, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of St. Marys Church of Warren, SCOPE, the Warren Deaf Club and the Pennsylvania Society for the Advancement of the Deaf in Philadelphia.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Evelyn J. Vettorel Horkey, whom he married May 23, 1953.

Also surviving are a daughter, Debbie E. Shank and her husband, James; two sons, Stephen M. Horkey Jr. and his wife, Cindi, and James A. Horkey and his wife, Michele, all of Warren; six grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two sisters, Maxine Machen of Butler and Geraldine Maire of Worthington; and a brother, Richard Musko, and his wife, Barbara of Annville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward, and a niece and nephew.

- Friends of Stephen M. Horkey Sr., who died Saturday, July 24, 2004, were received this morning at

ROBERT H. ROBERTS-CLARK MEMORIAL HOME,

Warren. Services followed at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment was at All Souls Cemetery Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund at St. Marys Church or Warren or St. Roberts Church in Cortland.
