ST. LOUIS - The Colorado Rockies traded outfielder Larry Walker to the St. Louis Cardinals Friday for minor league pitcher Jason Burch and two players to be named.

The 1997 NL MVP, a seven-time Gold Glove winner, cleared waivers and agreed not to block the deal with his no-trade clause. He expects to join the Cardinals during their game against the New York Mets on Saturday afternoon.

Walker, a five-time All-Star, is batting .324 with six homers and 20 RBIin 108 at-bats this season.

At 70-38, St. Louis has the best record in the major leagues and a 10 ½-game lead in the NL Central.

PHOENIX - Jerry Colangelo, who brought Arizona a major league baseball franchise in 1998 and a World Series title three years later, is being forced out as chief executive officer of the Diamondbacks and will be replaced by agent Jeff Moorad.Colangelo said Friday that disagreements with some of the team's four majority owners about the direction of the franchise caused him to step down, effective Dec. 31.

HOUSTON - Miami Dolphins wide receiver David Boston will miss the season after injuring a tendon in his left knee during practice, coach Dave Wannstedt said Friday.Boston, who posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2000 and '01, was running a pass route when his left knee appeared to buckle during a workout against the Houston Texans.

BOSTON (AP) - The Los Angeles Lakers Friday traded Gary Payton and Rick Fox to the Boston Celtics for Chucky Atkins, Marcus Banks and Chris Mihm.The Celtics also received a conditional first-round draft pick and cash in the deal and sent a second-round pick to the Western Conference champions.A nine-time All-Star, Payton averaged 14.6 points and a career-low 4.2 assists in the regular season last year.

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. - Chris DiMarco had four birdies to complete his first round, then added nine more in the second for 31 points and a six-point lead at The International.Rain and lightning ended Thursday's first round, forcing half the field to return for up to 33 holes at hilly Castle Pines Golf Club. Two more rounds of storms hit, setting up another marathon day on Saturday.

MONTREAL - Jennifer Capriati lost to unseeded Elena Likhovtseva 6-2, 7-5 Friday in the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup.Amelie Mauresmo advanced to the semifinals with a victory over Karolina Sprem. She will play No. 10 Vera Zvonareva in the semifinals.Likhovtseva will face No. 3 Anastasia Myskina, the French Open champion.
