Top teens compete for title
Catherine Justine Spafford of Chicora will relinquish her title and perform for the last time as Junior Miss Butler County of 2004. Last year, Spafford's performance of Mozart's "Concerto No. 19 in F Major" helped her nab the title. She will give the same winning performance at this year's program.
The daughter of Jim and Jean Spafford of Chicora, Catherine is a freshman at Allegheny College.
The 19 high school seniors will compete in interview, scholastics, fitness, talent and poise.
The winner of this year's program will receive more than $5,000 in scholarship money, a Junior Miss medallion, plaque, framed color portrait, flowers, video, and a trip to the state program in Indiana. More than $10,000 will be split between runners up and winners in other categories.
The program director and choreographer is Greta Otterson Curry. The Junior Miss Program chairwoman is Barbara Brandon of Butler.
Feather Bacher of Cranberry Township is president of the board of directors.

The candidates are:
Kristi Nicole Bowen, the daughter of Robert and Jean Bowen of Butler, is a student at Knoch High School. She is the captain of the varsity cheerleading squad and Sunny's Superstars Competitive Dance Team. She also is a student council representative. Kristi will perform a lyrical and jazz dance routine to the Donna Summer's song, "Last Dance."Catherine Elizabeth Brown, the daughter of Bill and Justine Brown of Butler, is a student at Butler High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Butler Golden Tornado Marching Band and the Butler Thespians. Catherine will perform the piano solo, "Polonaise in A," by Frederic Chopin.Melissa Lynn Brown is the daughter of Tim and Val Brown of Saxonburg. She is a student at Knoch High School and a member of the National Honor Society. She is a feature twirler and a Keystone Girls State Representative. Melissa will perform a baton twirling routine to, "I Go to Rio," from the Broadway musical, "Boy From Oz."
Kristin Lee Ciafre is a varsity cheerleader and a member of student council and the National Honor Society at Mars High School. The daughter of Anthony and Kris Ciafre of Butler, Kristin will perform a cheer and dance routine to a Janet Jackson/Mandy Moore mix.Maria Corridoni, a student at Seneca Valley High School, is the vice president of the Key Club and a member of the dance team and the National Honor Society. The daughter of Anthony and Debbie Corridoni of Zelienople, Maria will give a piano solo.Andrea Dawn Corso is a member of the National Honor Society, the Chamber Singers and the Dance and Drill Team at Slippery Rock High School. The daughter of Dan and Shirley Corso ofButler, Andrea will perform on the piano Edvard Grieg's "Concert in A Minor."
Becky Dickey, a Seneca Valley High School student, is a member of the National Honor Society, the track and field team and the diving team. The daughter of Allen and Josie Dickey and Jeff and Diane Smith, she will perform a hip-hop dance routine to a remix of Brittany Spears' "Me Against the Music."Brianne Bridget Fogarty, the daughter of Timothy and Bridget Fogarty of Freeport, is a student at Freeport High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the captain of the varsity cheer leading squad and a volunteer at Children's Hospital. She will perform a pointe/tap dance routine to "Lord of the Dance."Bryn Mikel Hollen is the daughter of Guy and Cathy Hollen of Valencia. A student at Mars High School, Bryn is the treasurer of the National Honor Society, a school board representative of the student council and a member of the Junior Mendelssohn Choir. She will give a vocal performance, "I Have Dreamed," from the musical, "The King and I."
Miranda Lee Hutchison is the daughter of Don and Paula Hutchison of Butler. A student at Butler High School, Miranda is a member of the Sequinette Dance Team and a dancer at Lee's School of Dance. She also participates in the all-school musicals. She will give a jazz performance to "All that Jazz," from the movie, "Chicago."Kristen Huth is the daughter of Chuck and Debbie Huth of Sarver. A student at Freeport High School, Kristen is a member of band and the golf team. She also participates in the school musicals. She will perform a tap dance to the song, "Hot Honey Rag."Jessica Rae Kelly, the daughter of Daniel and Lucinda Kelly of Prospect, is a student at Slippery Rock High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the varsity volleyball team. Jessica will give a vocal performance of "How Could I Ever Know."
Megan Elizabeth McDaniel, the daughter of Curt and Karen McDaniel of Butler, is a student at Butler High School. She is the vice president of the Senior High School Thespian Club, has been named in the Who's Who Among American High School Students, and has had lead roles in the all-school musicals. Megan will be singing and dancing to the song, "Not for the Life of Me," from the Broadway musical, "Thoroughly Modern Millie."Stephanie Oliver is the daughter of Jerome and June Oliver of Butler. A student at Butler High School, she is a member of the Honors and District choirs and the marching band. She has also been named to Who's Who Among American High School Students. Stephanie will give a vocal performance to Nat King Cole's "Orange Colored Sky."Laurie Michele Ratica is the daughter of Jack and Mary Lou Ratica of Butler. A Butler High School student, she is a member of the National Honor Society, a treasurer of the student council and a thespian clerk. Laurie will perform, "Lullaby of Broadway," from the musical, "42nd Street."
Tiffany Shaffer, the daughter of Phillip and Brenda Shaffer of Karns City, is a student at Moniteau High School. She is a member of the Moniteau Dance and Drill Team and the Moniteau Ensemble and is a dancer at Lee's School of Dance. She will perform the song, "You Can't Stop the Beat," from the Broadway musical, "Hairspray."Sarah J. Thiebaud is the daughter of John and Sandy Thiebaud of Renfrew. A student at Butler High School, Sarah is a member of the track and field team and a dancer at Shelor's School of Dance. She also participates on the Skyliner Newspaper. She will give a lyrical jazz performance of "A Mummer's Dance," by Loreena McKinnitt.Katie Lynn Wright is the daughter of Stephen and Grace Wright of Butler. A student at Butler High School, Katie is a member of the honors choir and directs the Children's Choir at First English Lutheran Church. She will give a piano and vocal performance to "Sebben Crudele".
Sarah Yakima is the daughter of Ed and Sue Yakima of Portersville.She is a student at Slippery Rock High School and is a member of the National Honor Society and the volleyball team. She also participates in the school musicals. Sarah will give a theatrical performance to "Honey Bun," from the musical, "South Pacific."

Once again, it's time for a select group of Butler County's young women to take the stage at Butler Intermediate High School, where they will compete for scholarship money and the title of Butler County Junior Miss 2005.
