Slippery Rock High School graduate and St. Francis College senior Chad Hartzell has been named Northeast Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week.

Hartzell ran a personal-best time of 25 minutes, one second at the recent Notre Dame Invitational, a national caliber 8-kilometer race. He finished 83rd.

Sean Knapp, golf pro at St. Jude Golf Club in Chicora, has been named Western Pennsylvania Golf Association Player of the Year.Knapp tallied 632 points this season - most in the WPGA - and won the Pennsylvania Middle Amateur. He finished among the top seven in three other WPGA events, including runner-up in the West Penn Amateur.

CLEVELAND - LeBron James and his longtime girlfriend, a 19-year-old Akron woman, had a baby boy. No other details were available.James left the team's training camp in Columbus to be with her and his new son. He was expected to rejoin the team Thursday as he prepares for his second NBA season.During the team's media day Monday at Gund Arena, James wouldn't comment when asked if he were about to become a father. He has always been guarded about his private life.Fatherhood should fit James well. The reigning rookie of the year, who turns 20 in December, is most relaxed when he is among children. This summer, he donated money to refurbish basketball courts and youth community centers in Akron. He has also donated supplies to the city's schools.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - A day after hitting Dale Earnhardt Jr. with a $10,000 fine and the loss of 25 points for cursing during a postrace TV interview, NASCAR handed down 12 more penalties for rule violations at Talladega Superspeedway.The hardest hit was Roush Racing, which received four of the penalties for making unapproved rear spoiler adjustments on the No. 16 Ford of Greg Biffle.Biffle was penalized 25 points, and car owner Geoff Smith, also the Roush team's general manager, lost 25 points. Also, crew chief Doug Richert was fined $25,000 and crew member Michael Hillman Jr. was suspended until Oct. 20 and placed on probation until Dec. 31.

SUMRALL, Miss. - The brother-in-law of Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre died after crashing an all-terrain vehicle on the player's property.Casey Tynes, 24, the brother of Favre's wife, Deanna, was riding the ATV without a helmet when it flipped, Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel said. Tynes sustained head injuries, was transported to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg at 6 p.m. and was pronounced dead 20 minutes later, Deputy Coroner Randy Beck said.

LAS VEGAS - Former Oakland Raiders kicker Cole Ford is being sought in a drive-by shooting last month at the home of entertainers Siegfried & Roy, police said.Ford, 31, whose three-year NFL career ended in 1997 after a poor season, was named in a felony warrant stemming from the Sept. 21 shooting, Sgt. Chris Jones said.Police identified Ford as the owner of a white minivan from which shots were allegedly fired at the compound owned by former illusionists Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn. No one was hurt, but police said shotgun pellets shattered windows and left a hole in a wall.

TAMPA, Fla. - South Florida and Pittsburgh have rescheduled their hurricane-delayed game for Dec. 4.The game is tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m. at Raymond James Stadium. The schools also considered moving the game to Friday, Dec. 3.The schools were originally scheduled to play Monday, Sept. 6, but the game was postponed due to Hurricane Frances.
