Clarence E. 'Pappy' Deal

Clarence E. "Pappy" Deal, 90, of Fairview died Monday at Butler Memorial Hospital after an illness.

Born in the Argentine area, Dec. 3, 1913, he was the son of Fred and Ella Pardon Deal.

He was a Protestant. He had attended the Hilliards school and served in the Navy during World War II as a mechanic at a Florida naval base.

Mr. Deal enjoyed hunting, baseball and NASCAR. He was a member of the Chicora Moose, the North Butler County Hunting & Fishing Club and American Legion Kaylor Post 488 of Bradys Bend.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah F. Bartoe Deal, whom he married June 15, 1936, in Mayport, N.Y.; a daughter, Patricia Hutchison and her husband, Donald, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; four sons, Terry Deal and his wife, Ruby, Richard "Chub" Deal and Steve Deal, all of Fairview, and Danny "Tiny" Deal and his wife, Theresa, of Portersville; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Four sisters, Eva Morrow of Grove City, Grace Campbell of Mercer, Genevieve Hovis of Clintonville, Edna Leonard of Klamath Falls, Ore.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis L. "Shorty" Deal, who died July 6, 2002; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Deal, who died Nov. 7, 2001; two brothers, Lester and Harold Deal; and two sisters, Pauline Bartoe and Alice Helfrich.

DEAL - Friends of Clarence E. "Pappy" Deal, who died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday atRICHARD D. HILLIS FUNERAL HOME, 102 Argyle St., Petrolia. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Rowe, pastor of Fairview United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.
