Navy Midshipman Maureen Kane,

daughter of Elizabeth and George Kane of Gibsonia, recently completed Plebe Summer at the U.S. Naval Academy and has begun four years of preparation for commissioning as a Navy or Marine Corps officer.

Kane is a 2004 graduate of Pine-Richland High School in Gibsonia.

During November, Edward Heeter Sr., regional representative of the Governor's Veterans Outreach and Assistance Center will have office hours at the Butler Armory, 250 Kreiss Road, Room 113, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, and FridayDates and times are subject to change. Veterans who need assistance at times other than the scheduled visits can call the center's at 800-442-6815 or 724-837-7988.---Other programs recently announced by the GVOAC include:Veterans who served in Korea after the Korean War are eligible for a new medal.A loan forgiveness program from PHEAA for members of the Pennsylvania National Guard and U.S. Reserve Forces.The VA will consider compensation for certain Persian Gulf illnesses.Ex-POWs or the widows of ex-POWs may be eligible for benefits.For more information of the above programs, call the outreach center at 800-442-6815 or at 724-837-7988.
