Joseph Surkosky

Joseph J. Surkosky, 70, of Butler, died Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 10, 1934, in McKees Rocks, he was a son of the late Andrew George and Mary Elizabeth Sikirica Surkosky. He had formerly lived in McKees Rocks, Bellevue and Penn Hills.

He had worked for the former H.K. Porter Co., currently HBD Industries, for 45 years and retired as a supervisor of direct mail.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, the Slovak Club, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion Post 980 in Penn Hills.

Mr. Surkosky was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, watching football and reading. He also enjoyed spending time with and teaching his grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving wife, Judith Rosalia Keay Surkosky, whom he married Feb. 23, 1957; three daughters and their husbands: Cynthia S. Hackett and John F. of Verona, Sondra A. Pipes and Kurt S. of Butler, and Dr. Andrea A. York and Carl D. of Rochester, N.Y.; one son and his wife, Dr. Stuart J. Surkosky and Dawn L. (Long) Surkosky of Butler; 11 grandchildren: Teale M. (Hackett) Bell and her husband, Chad W.; Adam B. Hackett, Alyssa J. and Andrew J. Pipes; Alexandra P., Andrew J., Annaleigh R., and Alizabeth R. York; and Joshua S., Jacob J., and Jordon I. Surkosky; and one great-granddaughter, Aislynn L. Bell

SURKOSKY - Friends of Joseph J. Surkosky, who died March 10, 2005, will be received at the GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.St. Paul's Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:35 a.m. Monday at the church to recite the Rosary.
