Howard L. Green

Howard L. "Greenie" Green, 80, of 117 Carnegie St. died at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lowrie House.

Born in East Butler, Oct. 22, 1924, he was the son of Carl and Elise Younkins Green.

He retired Jan. 31, 1986, as a steelworker at Armco-Butler Works.

During World War II, he served with the Army in Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a volunteer at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center and a member of the Joseph T. Black VFW Post 249.

Mr. Green was a Protestant. He also belonged to the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 64 and he enjoyed gardening and bowling.

Surviving are a son, William C. Green of Youngstown, Ohio; three stepsons, Christopher and Larry Robinson, both of Prospect, and Duane Robinson of Renfrew; a stepdaughter, Patricia Raskowsky of New Castle; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Riding of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Virginia Gould of Los Angeles; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

His first wife, Mary Isabelle Wolfrom Green, died Nov. 12, 1979; and his second wife, Frances Robinson Green, died in April 2002. Seven brothers also preceded him in death.

GREEN - Friends of Howard L. "Greenie" Green, who died Thursday, March 31, 2005, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Harvey, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church in America. Burial will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.Graveside military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 249.Information also is available at www.thompson-miller.com.
