Nelson E. McBride Jr.

Nelson E. "Red" McBride Jr. 80, of Clintonville died at 10:02 p.m. Wednesday at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Irwin Township, Venango County, July 28, 1924, he was the son of Nelson R. and Lucille R. Buckley McBride.

He was a graduate of Wesley High School in Venango County and retired in 1988 as a general foreman at Cooper Energies after 47 years. He had been a foreman in the shake out department before being promoted. After retirement, he continued to work at Cooper Energies as a consultant for six years.

Also after his retirement, he was a Clinton Township supervisor for a number of years and had been the township road supervisor.

He enjoyed hunting, golfing and vacationing at Treasure Lake.

Mr. McBride attended the Grace United Methodist Church of Clintonville and the Church of God at Nectarine. He was a member of the Grove City F&AM Lodge 603, the Oil City Lodge of Perfection and he belonged to the New Castle Consistory.

During World War II, he served with the Army in the Pacific and received the Purple Heart and the Silver Star.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Fawn Cannon McBride, whom he married Jan. 22, 1945; three daughters, Sue L. Stemmerich and her husband, Billy J., of Clintonville, Carol A. Peters and her husband, T. Michael, of Mayport, Clarion County and Linda K. Sperb and her companion, Steven, of Beaverton, Ore.; a grandson, Rian J. Blair; and a great-granddaughter, Emma L. Blair, both of Portland, Ore.

He also is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Richard E. (Esther A.) Vogan of Harrisville and Mrs. Calvin (Joyce) Stevens of Saegertown, Crawford County; and five brothers, Ernest McBride and his wife, Jean, of Grove City, Everett McBride and his wife, Hilda, Dale McBride and his wife, Janet, and William McBride and his wife, Carol, all of Harrisville, and Victor McBride and his wife, Barbara, of Jamestown, N.Y. His beloved Dachshund, Katie, also survives.

Two sisters, Mrs. Chester (Marjorie) McMurdy and Mrs. Milton (Edna) Haag; two infant siblings; and a brother, Walter McBride, preceded him in death.

McBRIDE - Friends of Nelson E. "Red" McBride, who died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, will received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at LARRY E. McKINLEY FUNERAL HOME, Clintonville. Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Sung Shik Chung, pastor of Clintonville Grace United Methodist Church and the Rev. James Oliphant officiating. Burial will be at Clintonville Methodist Cemetery.
