Dumping of annex debris approved by state agency
SUMMIT TWP - The state Department of Environmental Protection ruled this week that the dumping of demolition waste from the Butler County Prison Annex at Wally Yaracs' Auction Barn on Herman Road is acceptable.
The DEP became involved when a county resident reported the dumping to the department and the state police.
John Kowalik, vice president of Noralco, the demolition contractor for the annex, said Wednesday that his company has an agreement with Yaracs for the dumping that appears to be extending his parking lot.
"The DEP came out and saw it and ruled that it was clean fill," Kowalik said.
Clean fill includes items like brick and stone that will not deteriorate over time.
"Anything combustible like wood or stuff like re-bar that can rust away is considered dirty fill," Kowalik said.
