George P. Wonderly
George Parks Wonderly of Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Butler, joined his heavenly father on Aug. 6.
Born Nov. 7, 1945, he was the son of Floyd and Bernice Wonderly of Butler.
He was a devoted husband and father. He dedicated thousands of hours volunteering for his community and helped to make a difference in the lives of the children in Indian River County, Fla.
Throughout the 1990s, he was president of the Vero Beach Quarterback Club and volunteered his services to the Indian River Little League and Soccer League. He also served on a special council representing Osceola School for the Indian River County Council in the late 1980s.
Mr. Wonderly served his country in the Vietnam War and returned home to start his working career as a railroad engineer at Youngstown Sheet & Tube in the 1960s. He then owned and operated delicatessens and catering businesses in East Hill, Long Island, New York and Vero Beach, Fla.
His humor, passion and love of life will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Bettina "Tina" Nebel Wonderly; two children, Megan McFall of Sebastian, Fla., and Jason Wonderly, Tampa, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Ronna Wonderly of Butler; a sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis "Corky" and Jim Scott of Butler; two grandchildren, Gabrielle and Vivian McFall, and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Flick of Butler.
