James B. Salsgiver Sr.
James B. "Salty" Salsgiver Sr., 80, of Kittanning died Monday at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born Aug. 16, 1924, in Brackenridge, he was the son of William Wallace Salsgiver and Elba Shmitt Salsgiver.
He was a corporal in the Air Force during World War II and retired from Magnetics as a tool and dye maker.
Mr. Salsgiver was an active member of the Bethel Bible Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He also was a member of the Saxonburg VFW and the American Legion. He was an avid reader.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene Moser Salsgiver, whom he married Oct. 25, 1944; five sons, James B. Salsgiver Jr. and his wife, Marie, of Sarver, Wallace L. Salsgiver and his wife, Linda, William L. Salsgiver and his wife, Carol and Michael A. Salsgiver and his wife, Kathy, all of Butler, and Richard D. Salsgiver and his wife, Michele, of North Carolina; and three daughters, Elizabeth Jane Figler and her husband, Bruce, of Natrona Heights, Jeanne A. Renwick and her husband, Jeffrey, of Worthington and Amy Jo Barton of Kittanning. He also is survived by 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A brother, Wallace Salsgiver, preceded him in death.
SALSGIVER - Friends of James B. "Salty" Salsgiver, who died Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at BAUER FUNERAL HOME, 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Raymond Lesseski and the Rev. Dr. R.H. Lescelius co-officiating.
