The Slippery Rock School Board on Monday:Implemented voluntary extended day kindergarten. The program is designed for students who need extra tutoring help.Learned from superintendent Lee Beaton that students scored an average of 542 on the verbal portion and 538 on the math portion of the 2005 scholastic aptitude tests. Those scores are 76 points higher than the state average and 52 points higher than the national, she said. District students also scored higher than state and national averages on the 2005 ACT test as well, she said.Learned the construction project at Slippery Rock High School is on schedule and moving along well. Roger Weaver, clerk of the works for the project, said three of the four walls for the addition are almost complete and no major problems have arisen.Heard a recommendation from Weaver that the board buy panels to replace some of the windows at Slippery Rock Elementary School. The panels would cost about $42,600, according to Weaver. The change would result in a cooling of the rooms on the second floor of the school. Teachers and students complained about the heat of the rooms last year. Since then, ventilation fans have been added to take out some of the hot air in the rooms as well.
