John W. Lindey

John W. Lindey, 79, of Liberty Township, Mercer County, died Tuesday at Trinity Living Center, Grove City.

Born May 16, 1926, on a farm in Brady Township near Slippery Rock, he was the son of Edward F. and Florence Thompson Lindey.

He served in the 28th Division of the Pennsylvania National Guard in Germany in 1951 and 1952.

Mr. Lindey was a lifetime member of the Center Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock and served as a deacon and elder. He also belonged to the F&AM Lodge 800 of Grove City.

He did farming, worked for the McGowan Lumber Co. in Slippery Rock and was a local driver for Tri-State Motor Transit of Joplin, Mo. He also was a township supervisor for Liberty Township for 22 years.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Joy Hutcheson Lindey; four children and six grandchildren: Mark Lindey of Grove City; Sue Capkovic and her husband, Tom, and their children David, Adrienne and Bill of Moon Township; Dean Lindey and his wife, Karen and their son, Jack of Grove City; and Peter Lindey and his wife, Sue and their children Katie and Kyle of Oil City.

Also surviving are a brother, Frank Lindey and his wife, Lauretta, of Grove City; and two sisters, Martha Lindey of Oceanside, Calif., and Barbara Shores and her husband, Michael, of Carlsbad, Calif.

LINDEY - Friends of John W. Lindey, who died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. A memorial service will be held at 11 p.m. Friday at Center Presbyterian Church, Slippery Rock, with the Rev. David McCabe and the Rev. John Peterson officiating.Memorial contributions may be made to Center Presbyterian Church.
