Kenneth B. Greenway
Kenneth Bernard Greenway, 90, of Barron Road, Worth Township, died at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Living Center, Grove City, after a long illness.
Born in Wilkinsburg, Aug. 13, 1915, he was the son of Christy Walter and Jane Mariah Best Greenway.
He was raised on the family farm, where he used the horses for farming and working in the woods; and the neighbors could hear him singing for a mile when he came home.
Mr. Greenway retired from Cooper Energy of Grove City as a lathe operator.
He was a member of West Liberty United Methodist Church, where he had served as an elder, deacon and trustee and had been a Sunday school teacher. He was a member and former president of the Slippery Rock AARP.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and made seven trips in "Torpedo Alley" on merchant ships hauling supplies to Murmansk, Russia.
Surviving are two sons, Don Greenway and his wife, Peg, of Slippery Rock and Clair Lee Greenway of Evans City; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
His wife, Gilda Pearl McDeavitt Greenway, whom he married April 4, 1934, died April 10, 1999. He also was preceded in death by a son, John Kenneth Greenway; an infant daughter, Jeanette; and a brother, Gordon.
GREENWAY - Friends of Kenneth Bernard Greenway, who died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Lewis, his church pastor, officiating.
