William Ray Jones Jr.

William Ray Jones Jr., 78, of Worth Township, formerly of Wexford, died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday at his home.

Born in Coketon, Tucker County, W.Va., June 2, 1927, he was the son of William Ray Jones Sr. and Evelyn Pearl Shrader Jones

He retired from the Allegheny County Port Authority in 1991 as a maintenance foreman. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was a member of the Slippery Rock American Legion and the Grove City VFW Post 526.

Mr. Jones was a member and deacon of the Wolf Creek Presbyterian Church in Worth Township. He also belonged to the William D. McIlroy Lodge F&AM of Pittsburgh, the Chartiers Community Knights Templar 78 in Carnegie, the Syria Shrine and the North Hills Chapter Order of Eastern Star 526 in West View. He actively volunteered for the Salvation Army.

Surviving are his wife, Flora Mae Summerfield Jones, whom he married: March 27, 1949; a son, Richard A. Jones and his wife, Linda, of Pittsburgh, a daughter Ellen J. McCaskey and her husband, Joseph, of New Brighton; and a sister, Sandra K. Lilja and her husband, Arthur, of Bethel Park. He also is survived by 11 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

A son, Odis Ray Jones Sr.; three sisters, Thelma Mae Jones, Ruth Marie Arnold and Delores Janet Hartz; and two brothers, Robert Lee and Richard Paul Jones, preceded him in death.

JONES - Friends of William Ray Jones Jr., who died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at theSMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Services will follow at 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Mark Fraley, his church pastor, officiating. Private burial services will be later at the convenience of the family.
