Arthur Leroy Barnes
Arthur Leroy "Art" Barnes, 63, of 134 Crocker Road, Slippery Rock Township, a loving husband, father and grandfather, went to be with the Lord at 8:41 p.m. Wednesday after a long illness. He was a patient at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Brent, Lawrence County, Jan. 26, 1942, he was the son of Braden Everett and Florence Ethel Stevenson Barnes.
He retired from Greenville Steel Car and Trinity Industries of Greenville after 31 years.
Mr. Barnes served two years in the Army, 13 months of which was in Korea, and he belonged to the American Legion Post 584 in Mercer.
He was a member of the Wolf Creek Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock.
He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed bingo and playing pool with friends. He also loved camping with his family.
Surviving are his wife, Linda K. Crocker Barnes, whom he married May 18, 1963; three daughters, Brenda Evans and her companion, William Warner, Crystal Snyder and her husband, Richard, and Kimberly Barnes, all of Slippery Rock; a brother, Harry Barnes of Meridian; and three sisters, Vera DeGregory of Grove City, Dorothy Lyons of New Castle and Ruby Bodien of Mercer. He also is survived by six grandchildren, Rachelle and Russell Evans Jr., Samantha Warner and Ashlie, Ryan and Noah Snyder.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Thelma Noble, Mildred Moon and Hazel Stiles.
BARNES - Friends of Arthur Leroy "Art" Barnes, who died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Slippery Rock Cemetery.
