Lester E. McElravy

Lester E. "Jiggs" McElravy, 78, a 20-year resident of East Brady Heights, formerly of Karns City died at 9:28 p.m. Wednesday at UPMC Presbyterian following a long illness.

He was born in Karns City on Sept. 29, 1927, the son of John and Mary Anita Morgan McElravy.

Mr. McElravy formerly attended the Karns City Church of God of Prophecy and recently had been attending the Brush Valley Brethren Church.

He served with the Army in Germany during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Kaylor Post 488 of Bradys Bend. He was a charter member of the Citizens Flag Alliance of Pennsylvania.

Mr. McElravy attended the Karns City Schools and was an avid fan of Karns City High School sports. He was a member of the Karns City Quarterback Club and was honored by the club for being a member for more than 30 years.

He retired from Koppers Chemical Co., now Indspec Chemical, in Petrolia after more then 35 years.

Mr. McElravy is survived by his wife, Henrietta Cousins McElravy, whom he married May 14, 1955, in Karns City; four daughters, Victoria K. Polaski and Pamela J. Vogel and her husband, Peter J., all of Cranberry Township, Leslie D. Barnhart and her husband, Dan Hegburg, of Karns City, and Michelle R. Karenbauer and her husband, Michael L., of Fairview; special friend Genevieve Zellers of East Brady; a brother, Raymond H. "Buck" McElravy of Karns City; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lincoln McElravy, Milford McElravy and Charles McElravy Sr., and four sisters, Edith Mahood, Grace Hile, Betty Hile and Bernice McElravy.

McELRAVY — Friends of Lester E. "Jiggs" McElravy, who died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the RICHARD D. HILLIS FUNERAL HOME,Petrolia. Visitation also will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Karns City Church of God of Prophecy. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church with the Rev. Harold Hutchison, the Rev. Roy Tilton and Bishop Alan Ion officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Chicora, with full military honors being accorded by members of the American Legion Kaylor Post 488 of Bradys Bend.
