Marie Broderick

Marie Broderick, 88, formerly of Bessemer Avenue in Lyndora, died Tuesday morning at the Sunnyview Nursing Home,

Born in Lyndora, March 1, 1917, she was a daughter of Andrew and Anna Herman Salak.

Mrs. Broderick had lived most of her adult years in Yonkers, N.Y., and returned to the Butler area in 1972.

She was a retired waitress and had worked at the Center Restaurant in Hastings-On-The Hudson, N.Y.; the Parkside Diner in Yonkers, N.Y.; and later at the Lyndora Hotel.

Mrs. Broderick was a member of the former St. Stanislaus Kostka Roman Catholic Church in Lyndora, now a part of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Parish; and had been a member of the ladies guild of the church.

Surviving are a son, Andrew M. Cherwaty of Butler; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Kathleen) Panko of Meridian; and three brothers, Andrew Salak of Butler, Michael Salak of Lyndora and Steve Salak of Pittsburgh. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Her first husband, Michael Cherwaty, died Nov. 11, 1959; and her second husband, Harold M. Broderick, died Feb. 25, 1972. A brother, two sisters and two infant siblings also preceded her in death.

BRODERICK — Friends of Marie Salak Broderick, who died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, 303 Penn Ave., Lyndora. Private burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings-On-The-Hudson.The Bereavement Committee of St. Fidelis Parish will recite the rosary at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.Please visit the funeral home Web site at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
