Tongue twisters help seniors sharpen minds

Adult day care often helps senior citizens improve their mental and physical health, maintain their level of independence and prevent mental deterioration.

In its adult day services, Concordia Lutheran Ministries promotes “Maintain Your Brain” programs year-round.

Tongue twisters are a serious brain exercise because they force us to concentrate on each syllable while speaking rapidly. Also, our bloopers make us laugh, and that brings oxygen to the brain to help us think more clearly.

Here are some tongue twisters to try:

- Top Chopstick shops stock top chopsticks.

- I saw Esau kissing Kate. I saw Esau; he saw me, and she saw I saw Esau.

- A fat-free fruit float

- Friendly Frank flips fine flapjacks.

- Irish wristwatch, Irish wristwatch, Irish wristwatch.

- Lovely lemon liniment

- Are our oars oak?

-n The sixth sheik’s sixth sheep’s sick.

- Three free throws, three free throws, three free throws.

- I never smelled a smelt that smelled like that smelt smelled.

Concordia’s Adult Day Services have extended hours, and its director, Paula Sypulski, is a member of the Pennsylvania Adult Day Care Services Association and the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals.

It offers three meals a day, daily devotions, current events, group activities, special projects, games and sometimes field trips.
