Robert A. Sweeney
Robert A. Sweeney, 83, of Butler died at 10:25 a.m. Saturday at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Butler.
Born Feb. 26, 1922, in Butler, he was the son of John J. and Freda A. Brown Sweeney.
He was the foreman of a warehouse for the T.W. Phillips Co. for 40 years before retiring in 1986.
Mr. Sweeney was a member of the Hill United Presbyterian Church.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of the Butler County Law Enforcement and the Pennsylvania Sheriff's associations and the Century Club. He was a former president of the AFL-CIO Local 242 Utility Workers Union.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Mr. Sweeney is survived by a son, Daniel R. Sweeney and Rusty Roman of Meridian; a daughter, Mrs. Clayton (Susan) Beam of Butler; five grandchildren, Mrs. Richard (Lori) Bollas of Chardon, Ohio, Mrs. Donald (Amy) Geiger of Madison, Ohio, Allison Sweeney of Largo, Fla., Ashley Beam of Butler and Kyle Beam of Butler; two great-granddaughters, Amber Collins and Zoe Geiger; a number of nieces and nephews; and a brother, John Sweeney of Massillon, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice C. Sweeney, who died Jan. 1, 2005; and two sisters, Betty Whaley and Beatrice Tait.
SWEENEY — Friends of Robert A. Sweeney, who died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, INC.,124 E. North St. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Swanson of the Covenant United Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Butler County Memorial Park.
