Dale E. Myers

Dale E. Myers, 78, of Bruin died at 5:50 p.m. Friday at Butler Memorial Hospital after a nine-year battle with multiple myeloma.

Born Sept. 14, 1927, in Bruin, he was the only son of O. Clark Myers and Dorothy May McCord Myers.

He was a 1945 graduate of Bruin High School, served with the Army in 1945 and 1946 and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Myers began his career as a grocer and businessman at the age of 12, working for his father at the O.C. Myers and Son Clover Farm Store in Bruin. He later operated the store with his wife and family from 1970 until its closing in 1979.

Mr. Myers was a lifelong member of the Bruin United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department.

A member and past president of the Chicora Rotary Club, he was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International and was interested in the foreign exchange program. He and his wife hosted several foreign exchange students over the years.

He was a 50-year member of the United Commercial Travelers.

Surviving are his wife, Claire M. Foster Myers, whom he married Aug. 27, 1948, in Maryland; three daughters, Susan M. Slagle and her husband, Ronald W., of Indianapolis, Sharon L. Rivers and her husband, David R., of Butler, and Jodale A. Barnhart and her husband, Timothy R., of Bruin; and six granddaughters, Kimberly S. Hehman and her husband, Marty, Lee A. Yeary and her husband, Terry, and Stephanie L Shears and her husband, Herbert, all of Indianapolis, Sarah A. O. Dicks of Butler and Dale A. and Drew L. Barnhart, both of Bruin.

Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Stephen, Michaela and Cheyanne Hehman, Brittany and Aaron Yeary, and Evan and Ethan Shears, all of Indianapolis; and four cousins, Robert Welliver of Andersonville, Ga., William Myers and his wife, Tammy, of Tremont Utah, Robert Myers and his wife, Shirley, of Ogden, Utah, and Margaret Rees and her husband, Clyde, of Montana.

<B>MYERS</B> — Friends of Dale E. Myers, who died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the RICHARD D. HILLIS FUNERAL HOME, 102 Argyle St., Petrolia. Visitation also will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bruin United Methodist Church, where services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wade Berky officiating.
