Charles E. Zimmerman
Charles Edward "Fiddlin' Ed" Zimmerman, 89, of Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County, died Thursday at West Haven Nursing Home, Washington Township, Westmoreland County.
Born April 14, 1916, in Shamokin, Northumberland County, he was the son of William and Susie Benninger Zimmerman.
He lived in Allegheny Township most of his life and retired in 1977 as a slitter at Allegheny Ludlum, West Leechburg
Mr. Zimmerman attended the Apollo Free Methodist Church in Kiski Township, Armstrong County, and the Family Christian Church, Truxall. He also belonged to the Old Smoothie Band and enjoyed playing the violin, especially for square dancing. He also enjoyed fishing and country music.
Surviving are seven children and their spouses, Edward L. and Barbara Zimmerman of Saltsburg, Helen and Charles McGee of New Kensington, Russell and Margaret Zimmerman of Allegheny Township, Kenneth R. and Gloria Zimmerman of Northern Cambria, Elsie and Melvin Miles of Ocala, Fla., Thomas and Gloria Zimmerman of Valencia and William and Dorothy Zimmerman of Leechburg.
He also is survived by 45 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Mae Stiffy Zimmerman, who died in 1984; numerous brothers and sisters; and a grandson, Kenneth Zimmerman.
ZIMMERMAN — Friends of Charles Edward "Fiddlin' Ed" Zimmerman, who died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the CURRAN-SHAFPER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Scott Pacifico officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, Apollo.
