Mildred Thompson Humphrey, 87, of Lafayette, La., died at 2:40 a.m. Saturday at the Southwest Medical Center, Lafayette. She formerly lived in Knox, Grove City and in Mount Dora, Fla.

A native of Argentine, in Washington Township, she was the daughter of Edward and Rose Amelia Thompson.

She was a graduate of North Washington Academy, Concord Township High School and the Uniontown School of Beauty Culture.

Mrs. Humphrey was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lafayette, the Civic Club in Knox and also was a volunteer at the Knox Public Library.

She was a loving mother and homemaker and an expert seamstress, singer and pianist since childhood. She began by playing the piano for the Argentine Methodist Church and continued sharing her music throughout her life, finally playing piano at the Rosewood Retirement Community in Lafayette.

Survivors include a daughter, Norma Jean Luckey and her husband, Robert, of Lafayette; two grandchildren, Robert Jennings Luckey of Lafayette and Michelle Luckey Abshire and her husband, Travis, of Friendswood, Texas; a great-grandchild, Maddux Ray Abshire of Friendswood; a sister, Peg Karnes of Butler; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Butler Humphrey; a daughter, Florence Sandra Humphrey; six sisters, Mary, Margaret, Jessie, Florence, Helen and Rose; and five brothers. Thomas, Clarence, Martin, John and James Thompson.

<B>HUMPHREY</B> — Friends of Mildred Thompson Humphrey, who died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, will be received from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the CUNNINGHAM, FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jean Gomola officiating. Burial will be at the Eau Claire Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 312 Guilbeau Road, Suite 6C, Lafayette, LA 70506; the Alzheimer's Services of Acadiana, 128 Demanade Blvd., Bldg. 4, Suite 109, Lafayette, LA 70503; or to the Knox Public Library, Knox, PA 16232.
